Sachetization: Offering Small quantities of your product.

Sachetization is a term I first came across in a book I read titled “How to sell to Nigerians” by Akin Alabi. Although it’s not an English word, it is coined from the English word sachet. Give me a minute to explain and you’d truly understand this term and be pressed to sachetize your product or service as soon as possible. Sachet is a small sealed bag or packet containing a small quantity of something. The phrase of interest is ‘a small quantity of something’ as this is where sachetization gains its meaning.

Around the world and in Nigeria especially, big companies that sell products and offer services have found ways to sell smaller quantities of what they offer. Most times they call it an economy pack. The reason why the economy pack came into existence is to cater for customers who couldn’t afford the bigger product. These sachets also served as samples for consumers who wanted to buy the products but didn’t want bigger quantities or were just looking to sample it before making the decision to buy more.

Economy packs have grown so popular that nearly every product in the market today has a smaller sachet style available too, and these sachets are bought not only by people who can’t afford the bigger quantities but also by many consumers looking to have access to small quantities at a time.

In business, you have to apply this strategy of satchetization to gain more customers. It doesn’t matter if you sell products or services, there is a way you can offer small quantities to your customers.

Let me highlight two instances;

  • If you sell perfumes, you could offer small sample bottles for sale. People that can’t afford bigger bottles or are looking to try a fragrance before they decide to buy will have the option to patronize you and you’d still be making money.
  • If you offer the service of manicure, pedicure and micro-blading, you can add sachet services of brow carving, nail polish remover and other easy tasks that you can make money from. Customers can gauge your service, the scenery and also your professionalism and may come back for full services in the future.

Whatever your business is centred around, there is definitely a way and means to offer mini-sized packages to your customers. You only have to give it adequate thought. The goal is to make money, whether In large chunks or small chunks, drops of water make an ocean they say. Satchetizing your products also expand your customer base as there would be an offer for different types and class of customers.
