Tales of the Fabrics in my Basket – 1

Ankara fabric with dragonfly prints

This fabric was brought to me by my mom. It is an aseobi (the same fabric design worn by invitees to an event). I used it to make a peplum princess dart bustier top with 3/4 puff bishop sleeves and a straight skirt for her. I wasn’t so sure about her style choice, but it came out amazing with a mix of emerald green lace for the yoke of its asymmetric neckline and its sleeves cuff.

Ankara fabric with spiral prints

I bought this fabric in Two yards from a friend. I am currently using it to make a corset dress for the photoshoot of the launch of my brand Planet Zaiy. This is going to be the first-ever Ankara corset dress I am making. The colours of the fabric look dull yet mature in my opinion with its green and brown prints. However, I am going to be mixing the dress with these two fabrics beneath. You may be thinking, 3 fabrics in one dress? Don’t worry, it would come out uniquely beautiful.

This black lace is a remnant fabric from a corset playsuit I made in December for a client’s birthday. I am going to be using the black lace for the yoke and sleeve frills of my photoshoot dress, in combination with the fabric above. The other fabric which is black tulle, I will be using for the sleeves of the dress. I am excited to see how this dress comes out when it is finished.

Fabric type: Crepe • Color: Fuschia Pink?

This fabric is a crepe and this is the third time I am working with this colour shade of fabric. Each time I have used it in the past was to make a palazzo. The first was for my sister, second and third times were for clients. When I go shopping for this fabric, my colour search is always fuchsia pink but most times it’s hard to get the exact shade you may be looking for, hence these varying shades. The palazzo trousers always come out so nice because these crepes are of very high quality and they make excellent office and corporate wear.

Yellow silk with blue and white patterns

This silk is from a customer’s roll. I have delivered the clothes but the remaining fabric I used to make a headscarf for myself. The fabric is very vibrant in color with flowery patterns. I used this to make a two-piece blouse and pants. The pants were fitted and the blouse was a round neckline with an asymmetric hemline. The hemline had pleated frills running across it. The sleeves had a visible slit showing off some of her arms. She loved her cloth and commended me on the style.
