Scissors is an indispensable tool for every cloth maker. Although a designer that only curates designs or sketches might not need it but I can bet they’ll be in possession of one. The word ‘scissors’ denotes one or two or more pairs as the plural of scissors is also scissors.
Scissors are flexible tools with easy to grip handle and sharp blades that are used to cut and divide clothes or pattern papers. After marking a fabric or pattern paper, this tool comes into play to cut out the separate individual pieces. Also when sewing, a pair of scissors should be kept near by to trim of loose threads at the beginning and end of the stitch.

Types of Scissors
There are different kinds of scissors depending on the intended use of the tool. As scissors are not only limited to cloth making but are used for other various purposes, the shape and sharpness of the tool varies to match its intended use. There are gardening scissors use to prune plants in the garden, kitchen scissors for cutting some ingredients or sachets, electrician scissors for cables and copper wires, hairdressers scissors for cutting and trimming hair and beards, grape harvest scissors for harvesting grapes in a vine, school scissors that cuts papers designed with blunt or zig-zag blades that won’t harm kids and many other types of purposeful scissors. There is even left-handed scissors tailored to be used easily with left hands 🙂
In cloth making alone, there are also a few types of scissors that you could find useful for one purpose or the other while you are making an outfit. They are all useful and a need for a certain type may present itself based on the fabric or design you are working with. There are even modern types, some electrically powered and even red-laser beam scissors. It is advisable to add them one after the other (or all at once if you have the means to) to your collection. It is a tool of convenience and when the need presents itself for it, you would be ready with the right scissors for the job.
