What Can I Sell?

Many people want to start a business but they are often clueless about where first to start. What they can sell puzzles them and they get confused and take wrong decisions that cause failure even before their businesses kicks off. I read a quote somewhere that all men must sell something to live and it is quite true. If you are employed in an organization, you are selling your skill and knowledge. If you are self-employed you sell your time and for business, it is the same thing also. By nature, humans get bored easily. I can say this is true for me, I can start doing something and after a while it gets monotonous and I get tired of doing that same thing even if it brings me money.

With this factor of boredom in cognizance, choosing to buy and sell something that you won’t get bored of is very important. Passion comes into play here, your passion can be something you enjoy with great enthusiasm. It might be an activity, a thing, a hobby or even a habit. There is no pressure for you to do it, no one has to force you or convince you to see the beauty in that thing, you enjoy doing it and you like having it. You have to identify something that aligns with your passion, something you can do for free, that brings you joy and makes you feel fulfilled, then go ahead and turn it into a business and make money off of it. This is the secret to enjoying work and building a lasting business that won’t fold up when times get tough. It’s easy to quit when there are no sales or your capital has run down or when you encounter an obstacle, but if your business is what you enjoy doing, whatever obstacles come even if they bankrupt your business, you will bounce back because you enjoy working.

Your business becomes second nature, the profits you make are just a bonus.

Are you still confused about what to sell? Think deeper, give it time and discover yourself. I have found that there is no avenue you can’t make money from, you can monetize everything. Let me share some examples you can use for direction.

  • Do you enjoy drawing or designing? Better your skills and you can become a sketch artist or graphic designer. It is an industry with a lot of money.
  • Cooking isn’t a task for you? Try selling cooked meals or catering for events.
  • People call you talkative by habit? You could start a podcast (if you don’t intend to show your face) or a sit-down Youtube talk show channel (if you want to show your face).
  • A lover of good scents? Sell perfumes and other types of fragrances (diffusers, candles and air fresheners)
  • Do you know a particular subject? You can sell your knowledge as an information product.
  • Love for kids? Babysitting or a daycare centre should be on your mind. Other people at work look for trustworthy centres to drop their kids off during the day.
  • Do you like supervised work? You should look into a 9-5. As I said, everyone is in the business of selling something, they sell their time and prior acquired knowledge. White-collar jobs are valid sectors many make millions from.

Those are seven scenarios and industries that you can venture into if you have such habits, passions, knowledge or skill. It’s quite easy to identify your business path if you give it a little thought. It is important to sell the right thing if you want to thrive and flourish no matter the economy you are in. It is not a decision to take in a haste but one that careful thought and research be given to. You may have to acquire more knowledge and understand the ins and out, but when you do money will come easily to you as you are now professionally trained for your passion.
